Have y’all ever heard of Hot Buttered O’s? I hadn’t until about a year ago. I was on the internet searching around and stumbled upon this recipe. These O’s had an ad for them that looked like it was straight out of the 80’s.
I was intrigued. I thought to myself; it’s got butter in it. It’s gotta be pretty good. And hey, I’ve got some cheerios that are hanging around, uneaten. So, I’ll give em a try.
Well, Let me tell ya. These are so good! My family eats them like candy. My nephew, who is a toddler, loves em. Even my Dad loves em. I love a sweet/salty combo so I usually use the honey nut variety.
In just a couple of minutes you can have a delicious, hot snack ready to go. I can’t believe I hadn’t ever heard of these before. Well, now I’m spreading the word. Here’s the recipe:

- 1/2 stick butter
- 4-6 cups regular cheerios or honey-nut cheerios ( I think the honey nut cheerios taste best. )( I usually do 6 cups of honey nut cheerios.)
- salt, to taste.
- Heat up a 10 or 12 inch skillet.
- Melt the butter over medium low heat.
- When the butter gets all melted, add in the cheerios. Stir them around for a couple of minutes and let them soak up all the glorious, tasty butter. I like to let them get a little toasty looking, just a little golden brown.
- Then turn off the heat, and salt them. Add however much salt you think they need.
- Salt and taste.
- You can make these with regular cheerios but I’ve made them with the regular and the honey nut. The honey nut kind are by far my favorite because of the the kinda sweet-salty combo that you get.
- Use whatever kind of cheerios you like. I think I’ve seen a caramel kind and I bet those would just be delicious. Let me know if you try a different kind of cheerio and how it turned out.
